Push send.

Back when my horrendous chef hat was still crisp white, I certainly wouldn’t have told you that I’d write a cookbook with my mother someday.
But, we just pressed “Send” on our full manuscript. Praise heaven, earth and the extra brain-space that just freed up.
Now, I’m hardly saying we’re finished. Mom and I have got many edits in front of us, covers to finalize and more, but it’s all on paper folks. My brain feels lighter without carrying the weight of all those words. Curled up next to whatever else is to come, the pages had been rattling, eager to get out and their birth feels like an enormous relief. I celebrated by attending not one, but two dance classes today – a total luxury and my kind of celebration.
Back in February, we shot all the photos for the book, minus a few stragglers, like Rustic Sourdough Bread and Banana-Date Sprouted Muffins, which just hadn’t been created, yet. But, the bulk’s done. Though I’m anxious to share the final shots, they’re stuck in a vault somewhere, so I’ll settle by posting some iPhone snapped “Behind the Scenes” shots. We had a great crew made up of our multi-talented farm team.
The Crew:
John – My husband and Photographer
Sandy – My mom and Co-Cookbook Author
Mallory – John’s Camera Assistant
Jess – Sous-Chef
Marlene – Props & Stylist
Jose – Assistant
and ME.
Props
Computer – Camera Set-Up / John used the computer to check focus and framing.
We built “tables” from reclaimed barn wood.
Mom’s holding “Whey” used for making fermented foods.
Shooting Multi-Seed Crackers. Ya’ll are going to love that recipe.
This last shot deserves a little further explanation. If you look closely below my hands, you can see fingers and maybe you can make out the hairline of a person, just above the plate. That person (Jess) was holding a smoldering smudge stick above a little bowl, in order to create additional smoke for the shot. Sounds like a great idea, until hot embers fly all over Jess, Jess’s fingers and Jess’s legs. We got the shot! (Sorry Girl!)

My non-chef’s hat is off to you all! What a great accomplishment. Few will realize the work that went into this forthcoming best seller.

Molly, John, Molly’s Mom and all,
What a wonderful sense of accomplishment! I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy of this long awaited for masterpiece. Yes, I’m sure it will be a beautiful table top cookbook! You all are so creative and talented, it would be difficult for any of you to create something less than terrific. Hats off to you, all – now Breath! :o)
